2010 Fall Referee Kickoff Meeting

This year's Referee Kick-off Meeting will take place on Wednesday, September 8th. We will again be having this event at the Fresh Start Cafe on York Road next door to Mel's Ace Hardware.

The meeting be held on will kick-off at 6:30pm and we hope to be finished with everything but passing out the equipment by 8pm. Aside from gear, we be distributing new "Laws of the Game" and going over a variety of procedures for game assignments and questions raised during play last year. Dinner will be served and you are welcome to bring along your child or children (or spouse) if doing so means that difference between your being able to attend or not.

Referee Training Update

As of this evening, no further Referee Training courses are scheduled for before the first games of the season on Saturday, September 11th. However, we can still schedule one-on-one training on an adhoc basis for anyone still interested in serving as a referee. Email refereeinstructor@ayso399.org to see what can be set up as a date and time to take either the 3 hour U8 Official Course or the 6 hour Basic Referee Course (which can be done across multiple sessions).

Class starts at 8:30am for U-8 and Basic with U-8 to finish by 12:15pm. Basic upgrade runs 12:15 to 4:15.

For those currently holding a U8 Official Badge who will be doing U10 games this fall, the upgrade to Regional will be essential. The U10 level brings in the Offside law as well as penalty kicks which were subjects not covered in the U8 training. The "Upgrade" class simply starts where the U8 Course left off and covers just these additional topics. You can also choose to take the full day Regional Course if you are interested in a refresher of the basics. In fact the Regional badge level includes a written test on the LotG and so you should at least plan a little self-study beforehand if only taking the upgrade.
